Reading

We got a new book today and the stories are getting harder. Please read the story with your child nightly and ask questions as you are reading.

** It is Red Ribbon Week! We will discuss the importance of staying drug free! ** Follow the schedule of Red Ribbon Week activities that was sent home last week!



Notes

-We will have our Halloween Parade and Party on Friday! The parade will begin at 2:00 with the party to follow. Please send your child’s costume to school in a bag with his or her name on it. Please do not send any props such as broom, knives, daggers, guns, etc. Everyone is welcome to come and see the parade, but only assigned homeroom helpers will be allowed inside the school and classrooms.

-We had Gym today and will have Gym again on Friday; remember to wear sneakers!

Also, look at the weather and dress your child accordingly. All students must wear socks and sneakers. An extra pair of socks is recommended due to the dew on the grass at the bouncy activities. -We started a unit on Animals today to get ready for our Field Trip! We go to Hershey on our Field Trip next Wednesday, May 5. Every child must pack a lunch in a brown paper bag with his or her name clearly marked on the front. All contents, including drinks, must be disposable. We cannot carry any food items or containers around the zoo! Students should wear their new royal blue t-shirts that were provided by the PTO.

Phonics
We will work on the rule v/cv’ this week. There will be a Phonics Homework sheet on Tuesday! Please write all of the words from the word box that tell about the picture, and then fill up the rest of the lines with words of your own. All lines must be filled!
There will be a Phonics Reader on Wednesday and Thursday this week! Have your child read those to you at home!

Math
We will continue to work on Tens and Ones this week.

Reading
We will continue with “Mama’s Birthday Present” this week! Please read the story and review the wordlist nightly. The stories and tests are getting harder. We discuss the story everyday here in school, but it is also important for the students to read the story nightly and discuss the story as they read it. We will take the Vocabulary and Comprehension Test on Thursday.




Science
We will continue to work on our Weather and Seasons unit. The test will be given on Thursday.

Notes
-We will celebrate Read Across America on Friday! We will do an activity with some Bloomsburg University Students and do fun Dr. Seuss activities throughout the day.
-We will have a visit from the author, Patricia Herber, on Thursday morning. She will be sending order forms home after her presentation in case your child is interested in ordering one of her books.
-Just a reminder that we do have snack time every morning. Many students have been forgetting to bring snack.
-Lunch change; the main lunch on Wednesday will be Turkey Sandwich and Mashed Potatoes.
-Progress Reports will be sent home on March 4, due to snow days.

Homework Note; February 22

No Spelling this week!

Phonics
We will work on the rule v’/cv with a, e, i, o and u this week. There will be a Phonics Homework sheet on Tuesday and Thursday this week! Please write all of the words from the word box that tell about the picture, and then fill up the rest of the lines with words of your own. All lines must be filled!

Math
We will take the test on “Graphs and Tables” on Tuesday. We will begin working on Tens and Ones on Wednesday.

Reading
We got our Unit 4 Reading books today! Our new story is “Mama’s Birthday Present.” Please read the story nightly. The stories and tests are getting harder. We discuss the story everyday here in school, but it is also important for the students to read the story nightly and discuss the story as they read it. Also, you will notice a new kind of wordlist in your child’s folder today. They use the story words in sentences and list the High Frequency words at the bottom. Continue to study those nightly. Those words will be tested on the vocabulary part of the test. We will take the Vocabulary and Comprehension Test on Friday.



Science
We will continue to work on our Weather and Seasons unit.

Notes
-We will celebrate Read Across America on Friday! We will have a guest reader, do an activity with some Bloomsburg University Students and do fun Dr. Seuss activities throughout the day.
-Just a reminder that we do have snack time every morning. Many students have been forgetting to bring snack.
-There is no school for students on Monday, March 1. It will be an In-service Day for teachers.
-Progress Reports will be sent home on March 2, due to snow days.

We will take the Oral Test on Thursday, and the Vocabulary and Comprehension Test on Friday.

We will take the Oral Test on Thursday, and the Vocabulary and Comprehension Test on Friday.

-We will be having a Student Teacher in our room for the next nine weeks. Her name is Marci Rajkowski and she is from Bloomsburg University. I am sure you will be hearing a lot about her from your child in the next few weeks! We are very happy to have her!!

Our new story is “Ruby In Her Own Time.” Please read the story and review the wordlist nightly. We will take the Oral Wordlist Test on Thursday and the Vocabulary and Comprehension Test on Friday. I will not read any of the Vocabulary Test the students from now on. I will, however, continue to read the Comprehension Test to the students through the 3rd Marking Period.

Notes
-There won’t be any Remedial Reading this week. The Reading teachers will be giving the DIBELS Test this week. We all will take the test sometime during this week!

We got our new Reading books today for Unit 3! The first story is “An Egg is an Egg.” Please read the story and review the wordlist nightly. We will take the Oral Wordlist Test on Thursday and the Vocabulary and Comprehension Test on Friday. I will not read any of the Vocabulary Test the students from now on. I will, however, continue to read the Comprehension Test to the students through the 3rd Marking Period.



Notes
